Bernadette Laumann, Ph.D., Project Coordinator, the Illinois Early Learning Project at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Laumann holds a B.S. in Psychology, Ed.M. in Early Childhood Special Education and a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood special education methods, assessment of the young child, early childhood curriculum and intervention strategies, teaming and collaboration, early childhood special education leadership, collaboration with families, and special education program administration. Dr. Laumann has supervised teacher candidates in practicum placements in parent/infant playgroups, community Head Start and public school pre-kdg. settings. She has been a child care teacher, early childhood special education teacher, principal/director of a NAEYC accredited inclusive public school pre-k program, researcher, and project coordinator. Her research interests include mentoring and induction support for beginning early childhood teachers, development and use of portfolios in pre-service teacher education and professional development, and the use of technology in classrooms for young children. Dr. Laumann is a past president of the Illinois Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children (IDEC) and is a current member of the NAEYC Consulting Editors Panel and the editorial board for the journal, Young Exceptional Children.
